Virtual DBT Group for Disordered Eating
This group is facilitated by a licensed professional that is trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), behavioral compulsivity, and group dynamics. Compulsive eating patterns including binging, purging, emotional eating, and restricting are addressed through Mindfulness, Emotion Regulation, and Distress Tolerance skills. The DBT model helps group members learn how disordered eating and emotions are linked. Through a mixture of psychoeducation, skills, and processing, we practice behavioral tools to reduce acting on urges.
Group is scheduled to meet weekly on Thursdays from 5:00-7:00 PM for 13 consecutive weeks. Group members are discouraged from absences since they will fall behind and may have difficulty catching up. New group members will not be admitted after the start of the course but are welcome to join the next group cycle. Each group member must be working with an individual therapist, must be a resident of Georgia, and must have a device with a camera and microphone to participate in video sessions. Homework is assigned weekly and discussed/processed the following week.
